Medical team flies to roof fall man (Stanwell Park)

A man’s plunge from a roof landed him unconscious in hospital with a critical head injury following a mishap at Stanwell Park, north of Wollongong, late today.

Ambulance, police and the NRMA CareFlight flying trauma team rushed to the man’s aid following a 000 call just after 6 pm.

The man’s friends told the NRMA CareFlight doctor the 20-year-old man, from Stanwell Park, struck concrete surrounds when he tried to jump from a roof into a swimming pool.

NRMA CareFlight’s helicopter landed in a nearby park to allow the trauma doctor to join ambulance paramedics in treating the man who remained unconscious.

He was given a general anaesthetic and placed on one of NRMA CareFlight’s mobile intensive care modules.

The man was flown to St George Hospital where he remained in a critical but stable condition on arrival.
