A motor bike rider who was not wearing a helmet was found unconscious on a road at Yennora, in Sydney’s west, this afternoon.
A soccer game was briefly interrupted as a nearby park served as an impromptu helipad to allow an NRMA CareFlight trauma doctor to start treating the man just 12 minutes after the initial “000” alert to ambulance officers at 2.40 pm.
The NRMA CareFlight doctor said the 23-year-old man was found a short distance from his Wentworth Parade home.
The doctor worked with ambulance paramedics to place the man on a ventilator to control his breathing then continued intensive care treatment as the rider was taken, in a road ambulance, to Westmead Hospital to undergo emergency surgery.
